Terms of Service

Last updated 8 September 2026

These terms are a contract between you and Gemma for use of Gemma, a personal household budget app. Bracketed fields are placeholders for the operator to complete. By creating an account you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy.

Who we are

Gemma

Company number:
Contact: TBC

The service

Gemma helps you view accounts, payments, budgets, and related household money tools. Bank feeds use TrueLayer. Gemma Premium (paid via Stripe) unlocks Goals, Cashflow, Digest, and the spending Agent. Everything else stays available on the free account unless we say otherwise in the product.

Gemma is not a bank, payment institution, or financial adviser. Nothing in the app, including Agent replies and digest write-ups, is regulated financial advice, a recommendation to borrow, invest, or switch products, or a guarantee of balances at your bank.

Accounts

  • You must provide a real email you control. New accounts stay pending until you enter the 6-digit verification code.
  • Keep your password secret. Optional authenticator-app MFA is available in Settings.
  • Each login sees only that user’s data. Do not share your account.
  • You must be able to enter a contract and, if you connect a bank, to authorise Open Banking for those accounts.

Bank connections

Connecting a bank is optional. When you choose TrueLayer, you authorise TrueLayer and your bank under their screens and terms. Gemma stores encrypted tokens so it can import accounts and transactions. You can remove a linked account from the Accounts tab. Deleting your Gemma account also deletes stored TrueLayer tokens and imported household data as described in the Privacy Policy.

Premium and billing

Premium is billed by Stripe. Where configured, new Premium starts with a 7-day free trial, then paid billing begins unless you cancel. Manage or cancel in Settings (Stripe Customer Portal) while Stripe is configured. Entitlement follows what Stripe reports (for example active or trialing).

If you delete your Gemma account, Gemma tries to cancel the Stripe subscription immediately so charges do not continue. The Stripe Customer record may remain for invoices. If Stripe cannot be reached, deletion of the Gemma account still proceeds; you should check Stripe if a charge might still be open.

Agent and digest

The spending Agent and weekly digest narratives use Google Gemini. The Agent can read your Gemma data and, within the product, recategorise or hide payments and manage goals. It can be wrong. Check important numbers in the Transactions and Accounts screens. Agent chat is stored in your session. Monthly Agent token use is capped; Digest narratives are not counted against that cap.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • Try to access another household’s data or probe the service for other people’s information.
  • Abuse APIs, scrape in bulk, or overload the app.
  • Use Gemma for anything unlawful, or to process data you are not entitled to see.
  • Reverse engineer the service except as allowed by law.

We may suspend or close an account that we reasonably believe is abusing the service or putting others at risk.

Your data and deletion

You can export a personal-data JSON file from Settings and a transactions CSV from the Transactions page. You can delete your account from Settings by typing DELETE. Deletion is permanent: the Gemma user and cascaded household data are removed, you are signed out, and those credentials will not sign in again. See the Privacy Policy for what Stripe may still hold.

Availability

We aim to keep Gemma available but do not promise uninterrupted access. Bank imports depend on TrueLayer and your bank. Premium features depend on Stripe. We may change or withdraw features with reasonable notice where we can.

Liability

We provide Gemma for personal, non-commercial household use. We are not liable for bank errors, TrueLayer or Stripe outages, or decisions you make based on the app or the Agent. We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that UK law does not allow us to exclude. For other loss, our liability for a claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in the 12 months before the claim, or £50 if you have not paid.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without limiting any mandatory consumer rights you have in your place of residence.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top will change. If you do not agree, stop using Gemma and delete your account.
